Patient FAQs

  • What can you do differently from the existing providers?

This model is about working with local and national experts in MSK to make sure you, the patient, are at the very centre of your own care. Because we will be responsible for your care from your diagnosis, right through to treatment and surgery, if needed, your care will be more joined up and you will feel supported and informed as you move through the service.

  • Will my service be less local because it’s one service across the whole patch?

No, the whole idea behind this new model is to provide joined up care closer to where people live. There will be more choice about where appointments can take place.

  • I am already receiving care, what happens to me?

This treatment will continue as it is at the moment, if you are undergoing long term care you will transfer into the care of Sussex MSK Partnership and in almost all cases you will remain under the care of  your current clinician.

  • Will I still be able to choose where I have an operation?

Yes, you can still choose where to have your operation.  You will be supported to make this decision with your clinician.

  • Why are you working together to deliver this?

We are four local NHS and not for profit organisations who have a shared ethos and a set of shared values. By joining together we can not only offer the very best MSK services from diagnosis to treatment but also look after you as you move through that journey.

  • What conditions will this service cover?

Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders covers any injury, disease or problem relating to our muscles, bones or joints and are very common. Broadly there are three groups of musculoskeletal conditions:

- Inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, where the immune system attacks and destroys the joints and sometimes the internal organs.

- Conditions of musculoskeletal pain such as osteoarthritis and back pain.

- Osteoporosis and fragility fractures, which happen when frail bones break, sometimes after a minor trip or fall.

  • What has mental health got to do with MSK?

Our vision is for people to have access to care that positively impacts on their lives and enables them to achieve their personal goals. We are passionate about the need to treat body and mind as a whole, “no health without mental health”. We help you to deal with the effects a musculoskeletal condition can have on your day to day life, your relationships and your emotional health.
